Bunkie Drawings
The Cottage Bunkie is a smaller building on a cottage property that not only makes an ideal guest cabin for cottage overflow, it also doubles as a quiet retreat for those days when even two’s a crowd.
Create a wish list for your dream Bunkie. Keep in mind the following limitations:
Bunkie Specifications:
Create several design sketches on paper to explore your ideas.
Once your sketches have been completed, finalize your drawings into 4 final drawings:
Create your drawings on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet:
Drawing Specifications:
Submit final drawings, idea list and design sketches for marking.
Refer to in-class discussion and handout for other information required on the drawings.
Create a wish list for your dream Bunkie. Keep in mind the following limitations:
Bunkie Specifications:
- Exist on a 100'x200' plot of rock, grass, sand, concrete, etc. Also include vegetation and any water access surrounding the Bunkie.
- 300 sq ft. MAX
- 1 storey building +
- Has electricity
- No running water.
- Must sleep 4 people
- Clear plan with teacher prior to beginning.
Create several design sketches on paper to explore your ideas.
- Create these on 8-1/2" x 11" paper
Once your sketches have been completed, finalize your drawings into 4 final drawings:
- Front, Top, Side, Floor Plan
- These Drawings will be placed onto a single sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" paper.
- You MUST scale your drawing using the architect's scale and using the following scale:
- 1/8" = 1'-0"
Create your drawings on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet:
Drawing Specifications:
- Show walls, doors, windows, etc.
- Label & Dimension the drawing.
- Proper border on the floor plan with information necessary (Wall Thickness, Slope Information, etc.)
Submit final drawings, idea list and design sketches for marking.
Refer to in-class discussion and handout for other information required on the drawings.

The drawings above will be completed once your idea list along with all of your rough drawings have been completed!
Notice the amount of detail in the drawings above - you are expected to include the same amount of detail including the Roof Slope Identifier, the downward angle of the shingles, the exterior finish such as log or brick, as well as a Roof Overhang of 1'-0".
You may copy my examples of a bed, couch, table, stove, etc, if you wish for your own drawing.
Do some research to discover the sizing of the elements in your drawing.

Create a several interior and exterior views of your design using the Snipping Tool on your computers which will be used in a word document explaining the design and its features, finishes and furniture.
Submit your sketchup file.
Also included in your Word file, include a brief (200 words) explanation of your design and its features, finishes, and furniture.
Refer to in-class discussion and handout for other information required on the model.
Model Specification:
- Be accurate
- Show exterior & Interior
- Show all material finishes
- Show all furniture

- Is all of the required information shown?
Model
- Is the model accurate & complete?
- Are all materials shown

- Does it represent the drawings and design intent?
Write up
- Overall quality and presentation of the drawings and model, as well as your explanation of your design and its features, finishes, and furniture.

What you need to submit...
Create a folder in your H: Drive and call it "Culminating - Bunkie". This is where you will store all of the required files for your culminating assignment.
- Completed SketchUp file with appropriate textures, models and labels included.
- Completed Word document with a total of 10 different views showcasing the exterior and interior of your Bunkie
- Front of Bunkie
- Back of Bunkie
- Right side of Bunkie
- Left Side of Bunkie
- Top of Bunkie
- Inside Front Door looking In
- Inside looking down from Ceiling
- Inside looking up from floor
- Inside looking right to left
- Inside looking left to right
- Also in your Word document - 200 word minimum explanation of your Bunkie answering the following questions:
- What did you include in your Bunkie?
- What kind of materials did you use to build and furnish your Bunkie?
- What do you like most about your Bunkie? What do you like least?
- If you were given the opportunity, what, if anything, would you fix or do over?
- All of your drawings (rough and final drawing containing the 4 required views) - Staple all rough and finished paper work together and submit to Mr. Da Silva
Different Roof Styles
You are going to have to decide which roof style to create for your Bunkie. The PowerPoint below will explain the different parts of a roof as well as show you the styles from which you can choose. Different Roof Styles will have a different construction process - use the resources available to you including the tutorials posted on our website, class handouts and even YouTube!
