Culminating - 30% of your final mark.

Culminating Assignment

This is it! This is your final assignment for this semester's class! You will be designing the floor plan of your dream cottage! Please check out the attached file below to gain further insight for this assignment. Make sure you utilize the skills you've learned in the previous task where we built a floor plan together. I didn't correctly label layers or use accurate text styles in the practise - however you will need to according to the CAD standards found below.

You are going to have to design your elements and blocks according to CAD standards. The CAD standards I will be looking for are also attached as files below.

Please review these when you are designing your blocks as well as creating layers and attaching colours - This will be part of your marks!

Additional Blocks

The design center works for simple items, but if you would like to include more advanced items, you can do so. I have compiled a website list of some websites which will allow you to download some AutoCAD blocks for free.

TO COPY A BLOCK FROM ONE DRAWING TO THE NEXT:

CTRL + SHIFT + C to copy the block you downloaded from drawings, and then you can switch over to your new drawing containing your working floor plans and press CTRL + V to paste.

including shift in the copy process is important - if you don't do this, then this will not work.

Grade 12's

In addition to designing a floor plan, you will be responsible for demonstrating a front elevation to provide a sense of depth to your cottage as well as decide which materials you want to include in your design of the exterior. As well, you will also be making a roof plan to demonstrate the slope and active hips and valleys in your design.

Below are some helpful videos and tutorials as to how you might succeed in these steps.

PLEASE wear headphones when watching the video below - The content is from another resource however the process remains the same.

Elevation Design

You can access the PowerPoint below for some reminders such as the height of your finished floor line and etc. Also, please remember I am only looking for a front elevation of your cottage, not a rear or sides.

Roof Plan

The roof design you will most likely be creating will be a hip and valley roof. The video below will demonstrate how to create a hip roof from your existing floor plan. If your roof plan is different (For example a Shed Roof or a Gable Roof), you will have to do the research and discover how to accurately represent your roof style in your drawing.

Also, the information you will find useful is up to the 4:30 mark of the video.

ALSO, it will be helpful for you to re-create your floor plan in SketchUp and create the roof there. By doing this, you can switch to a top view which will allow you to visualize all of the hips and valleys you may have to create for your floor plan - you can then transfer this information back to AutoCAD. Check out the image below of a roof created in SketchUp. (If you're not confident in AutoCAD then doing this will make it much easier)
