AutoCAD Basics – Limits
Setting the Drawing Limits:
To set limits:
When setting limits, the command prompt will request and input of a lower left corner of the current drawing; this will be (0, 0) by default. After setting lower left corner coordinate, the command prompt will require an upper right coordinate. Depending on the drawing size then type in a reasonable coordinate (example (40, 40)). To display limits, turn on GRID located under the command prompt or by typing GRID in the command prompt and typing ON to display. You can also type LIMITS to display a prompt which asks if you want to display the grid beyond the limits which you set earlier - if you select NO, then you will see the grid only for the limits you inputted (big help to make sure your drawing stays within a specific size and you don't make a mistake)
- When drawing, setting the drawing limits will establish the limits in which the drawing is done.
To set limits:
- Menu bar: Format > Drawing Limits
- Type LIMITS in the command prompt.
